The clarity in this resource book is spot on. This is not a book for beginners but for professionals with several years experience. There are some but not a lot of information that most professionals will already have branded to their memory, but it is the little things that this book gives that makes the difference. The ONLY thing that would be beneficial is an index, however, I respect AMA's point of view. This is not a beginner's book. We already know our anatomy and etiology of diseases/conditions so we would also know ICD-10-CM/PCS right? An added index would be a crutch. I believe this book was introduced to keep you on top of knowledge rather than search, grab and move on. I will probably use this book every time for auditing or answer questions.

This is the single most valuable book a plant-enthusiast can own. Almost all plants known to man are listed along with their physical description and growing specs. There are zillions of color photos - even for cultivars! It's cross referenced by common name and botanical name so anything you're looking for is easy to find. I've used it for countless bits of advise on plants I have, or might want to add. It provides instruction on how to propagate and how to use for the best aesthetic effect.. I really can't say enough good things about this text. It's a brilliant piece of reference material!

WOW, it's a work out just to lift it! This is quite an impressive volume. My landscape designer loaned me hers and I decided I has to have it. She paid a pretty price for a new one. I was glad to find it uber-cheap and in good condition used. This will be a great addition to my growing gardening library.

I have owned a copy of this book for many years. It has been my gardening bible. This copy was purchased as a gift for a gardening enthusiast. It is just full of all kinds of information and LOTS of photos. It is like a gardening how-to book and encyclopedia combined. The inside covers have visual glossaries for leaves, flowers and growth habits, keys to symbols used in the entries and zone map and hardiness explanation. This information is useful when deciphering the individual entries in the body of the book and explained in the first 10 pages. The next 20 pages have lots of general information on botony (the plant kingdom, the life of a plant, leaves and flowers) and information on cultivation(hardiness, gardening in different regions, the garden environment, outdoor cultivation, care under glass, pruning, pruning groups, propagaton, plant problems, organic issues and native plants. There are lots of photos and drawings to illustrate the descriptions. The next 20 pages have descriptions and the care of plants by the following groups: trees, shrubs, climbers, perennials, rock plants, annuals and biennials, bulbous plants, orchids, bromeliads, cacti and other succulents, palms and cycads, ferns, aquatic plants, grasses and bamboos. Each group is documented in a 2 page spread describing the plant group, its uses and features and cultivation. This section contains numerous photos of plant groupings and design suggestions. The remaining 1000 or so pages-did I mention this book is sort of heavy?-has the plants listed by Genus, Family and then individual plants with LOTS of photos. Do not let the scientific names put you off. If you don't know the scientific name of what you seek. The index in the back has common names followed by suggestions for a scientific name. The entries have all the information you would expect specific to the family and genus followed by individual plant entries and alternate (common) names, growth habit and cultivation information specific to that plant and many photos of the varieties of that family of plants. As an example, the clematis listing covers 5 1/2 pages and has 54 photos of different clematis flowers labeled, the magnolia listing is on 3 1/2 pages and has 35 photos and the rosa (rose) has 25 pages and even more photos to identify the flowers. I have referred to this book when gardening both for ideas and instruction, when looking something up for children's homework, and just for design ideas or to look at the pictures of colorful flowers during the snowy months of winter. This is the best general reference for gardening. With its size, it can double as a place to press those pretty blossoms you've grown.

What a good reference book. Some people like to read cookbooks, I like to read plant reference books. This big book is top of my pile. Highly recommended for anyone interested in what's growing in their neighbor's garden and what to call it when asking for some of your own at the nursery.

This book is absolutely wonderful with all the quick information you would ever need for plants in North America. It does cover propogation, cultivation, and common pest for a particular plant very well, and the color pictures are superb. The common names for plants found in your stores are are easily found by doing a cross reference at the back of the book. It's not at all difficult to find what you are looking for. Ofcourse, you cannot expect to find every single hybrid names that are being churned out everyday covered in here 'cause thats not practical. I found that pretty much all the plants i reasearched for with names from hardware stores and nurseries were covered in here. You do need the sister book for identifying and controlling pests and diseases. Nevertheless, this is a superb book for a resource and the best out there yet. It's worth the weight! Get the sister book for pests and diseases and you'll be all set!

I can't believe the size of this book as well as the detailed descriptions of so many plants! Incredible research! I love plants and find myself just looking through this book for fun. I heartily recommend this volume for the serious gardener or just for the plant curious. It's a treasure trove of plant behaviour, individual characteristics and luscious photos. One of my favourite botanical books.

Very engrossing tale of one of the most amazing races from cost-to-cost in history that any car guy or gal would enjoy. While a fascinating story. it's not the best written book if I'm honest.You practically need a organization chart to keep track of all the people the author constantly bounces the story line between. Also, the father-son dynamics and navel-gazing "insights" are just a lot of fluff that you have to wade through to get to the good parts. However, it's worth it. Definitely worth the time for an entertaining read.

Narcissism and hedonism at its finest, fueled by wealth that enables a highly creative spirit on a quest to find "The Driver." In a revelation at the end of this quest that was fueled by his father's bequest of a box on the father's death bed, the author is given a spiritual gift that exceeds any material inheritance. This read gives suspense, excitement and a glimpse into a world few see or experience.

I very much enjoyed this compelling memoir. Maybe because of my shared connection with the movie, "Rendezvous," which I stumbled across nearly two decades ago, I was immediately hooked. I read this book during a recent vacation with my family, and found myself sneaking time with the book. Unfortunately, I also found myself struggling with the writing. If it were a scale of one to ten, rather than five stars, I'd have rated Mr. Roy's book a 7 or 8. With better editing, the story and book would have been a raging 10. Mr. Roy does a great job of sounding endearing and no more reckless than was absolutely required for the task at hand. Sure, the task at hand is inherently dangerous, but not necessarily reckless. Mr. Roy comes across as driven (sorry, seems like the best description) by a personal quest, rather than by carelessness, ego or testosterone.I have no idea how a casual reader would react to this story or material, so please take that as a caveat. With that being said, if you're an enthusiast this story might leave you with a similar effect as the movie, "Rendezvous," did. If you don't know about "Rendezvous," and the act of driving a good car quickly and competently on public roads gives you joy (or, I suppose, the IDEA of driving a good car quickly and competently on public roads gives you joy), buy them together and enjoy yourself. I noticed a handy bundle of this book, the book,"Cannonball," by Brock Yates, and the movie, "Rendezvous," together. All three might just tip the scale from thrilling to overwhelming.So be it.Rendezvous

This is one of my favorite books. The writing is very good and engaging, and there's a speed junkie in me that has always wanted to have nice cars and drive them quickly. I enjoyed reading this book so much (originally, borrowed from the library) that I bought one copy for my best friend and another to lend to friends who would appreciate this story. I say "story" because any car/driving junkie exaggerates a little or embellishes a bit, and I suspect the author is no different.

I've read this book cover to cover a few times, and it never gets old. It is excellent. The beginning is a little difficult to follow as it jumps around a bit, but I was into the book within the first few paragraphs. Anyone who is into cars has probably heard about Gumball, and Roy's account of his experiences with these rallies is amazing. He writes in a very visual way without going into too much detail. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone and everyone who enjoys racing or cars in general.

Most entertaining book I've read on car racing in a while. A rogue and highly dangerous activity but I was able to live vicariously through Mr. Roy's exploits. It inspired me to buy an old M5 as a project... but not for sheer, all-out speed racing across the country. Enjoyed the book so much, I bought another copy for my brother.

I thought this was a great read ... whenever I put the book(my Kindle actually) down, I was anxious to pick it up again and continue reading. While Alex Roy in his Team Polizei BMW M5 is engaging in activities that are illegal -- road rallies and cross-country runs for speed, often triple digit speeds on public roads -- I couldn't help but get a vicarious guilty pleasure in hearing how these guys do it, and was impressed with the detailed planning and considerable technology involved. I'm a fan of F1 and ALMS racing, and its the endurance and off-track nature of Roy's activity that adds the spice. I'm no more likely to try to drive non-stop cross-country in 31 hours than I am to get a contract with Ferrari to drive in F1, but that doesn't mean you can't get some enjoyment out of the activities of those who do.If you're a gadget freak of any worth, you can't help but be impressed by the quantity (and high $dollar$ value)of the tech employed in evading traffic stops. I use a radar detector myself on long-distance trips, but Roy adds multiple scanners and CB radios, GPS's, cell phones, thermal and night vision imaging devices, night vision binoculars and even a spotter plane to his tech arsenal.If you check You Tube, you can find actual video of many of the stories/events that he tells about in the book. There may be some embellishment in the book, but not as much as you might think.The book is not Shakespeare but I think he does a good job of relating the story -- it made me feel like sort of like he was sitting across the table at the pizza joint telling me his tale. And for all those folks who are hung up on the police evading, illegal, dangerous nature of the activity ... do you watch any crime shows on TV, or any movies involving robberies? Do you condemn them because they are portraying illegal activities (often based on actual events)? If I'm passed in the middle of the night by a blue BMW driving on thermal imaging devices with no lights doing 140 mph+, I'm going to call the state police to report it -- but the book is still a great read!

Much encouraged by my purchase of Vol1, I decided to collect the others in the same series.Here's the amazon link to Vol1 I am referring to:http://www.amazon.com/Adventures-Tintin-America-Pharaoh-Complete/dp/0316359408/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1304314437&sr=8-1This one and other volumes of the same series are very different from Vol1.Vol1 is printed in Spain, the others including this one is printed in China. This is not a factor that would discourage me alone and I only found this after I was surprised by the differences below.Vol1 is bigger in both height and width than Vol2, about 0.5 inches at least. The pictures is Vol1 one are bigger, the font is bigger and bolder which makes all the difference.The size of the Vol2 (and the rest in the series) although small by just a little makes all the difference between just small and unreadable small. I just could not concentrate on the tiny pictures and the font on this one. Its like going down on the eye chart, one small size you can read alright and the next smaller one you can't make out.Returning these and will probably return the first vol too as now I can't complete the set.There is a lot of conflicting reviews on these series regarding the size and I will not be surprised if at some point different prints were shipped and is the basis for at least some of the confusions if not all.My advice if you haven't bought it don't !!

Herge produced Tintin adventures in the form of early graphic novels from the late 1920's until the mid-1970's. His stories have held up astonishingly and retain a huge fan base to this day.In "The Broken Ear", Tintin tracks a stolen South American fetish to the cartoonishly coup-torn Latin American Republic of San Theodoros, himself shadowed by two bumbling but dangerous criminals. The storyline presents one cliff-hanger after another for the fearless Tintin, while veering in presentation from high adventure to low farce. Herge hadn't quite mastered his story-telling style in this early adventure; Tintin is a distinctly younger version of the high-minded, mature adventurer he will become. Nevertheless, fans will find the story quite entertaining.In "The Black Isle", Herge and his cartoon hero Tintin hit their stride in terms of artwork and meticulously plotted storylines. Tintin pursues a gang of dangerous counterfeiters to the Scottish Highlands, ultimately to their lair on a remote island. The sequence in Scotland includes lots of Scottish dialect, men in kilts, and an encounter in a half-ruined castle with a real monster. Tintin is assisted, more or less, by the two bumbling detectives Thompson and Thomson."King Ottokar's Sceptre" takes Tintin to the fictional Balkan country of Syldavia, where he stumbles onto a plot to dispose the rightful king. The storyline centers around the mysterious disappearance from a guarded castle of a priceless relic. Tintin must race the clock to recover the relic and prevent the coup, assisted by the Thompson twins.Herge's simple yet wonderfully detailed artwork and carefully plotted storylines are still entertaining and very highly recommended to Tintin fans of all ages.

The book pictures and print are too small to read. Had a difficult time reading the words. The other Tin Tin volumes (large book) are better than this book as the pictures and words are easy to see and read. This book that I ordered was too small. It should be big like the other volumes.

great book. Good Grammar. good diction. A child can widen her vocabulary by reading these books. They are sensible. They carry great and intelligent plots. contain humour and suspense and is good literature for kids and adults alike

This is a sturdy, colorful collection of several TinTin volumes, and my 8-year-old grandson loves it. The images and type are a bit small for Grandma's eyes, but he'll do fine. A bonus for our family was that this one ends with TinTin sailing pre-WWII on the Queen Mary, which is permanently housed in our city of Long Beach. It's been a great way to acquaint him with an earlier era.

"OMG ...I LOVE IT!" these are the words of my daughter. She loves TinTin adventures and spends hours reading this book. Her only disappointment...she does not like it when Snowy gets hurt. Will be buying her more.

Love the story since I was a child. Recently bought this for my 6yr old. He loves the stories and have been reading them non stop. However, I took one star off because the text is small. I prefer the softcover version; the text is bigger and much easier on the eye.

You will be an analog filter master if you can learn all the information in this book. It's a solid expansion of the classic Van Valkenburg text.Pros:-Extends the original text with topics more useful for integrated circuit design, like transconductance-capacitor filters. It doesn't go into transistor level design though, you'll need to find another text for that.-Detailed, mathematical treatment of filter design. This is a different approach than say, Don Lancaster's Active Filter Cookbook. It's not a text you should use if you need to bang out a design quickly; rather, you should study this text if you want a deep understanding of how filters work.Cons:-It's really obvious where the new authors have added or modified material from the original 1984 text. You can do a side-by-side comparison of the two editions and for the most part, the core material is the same. However, at the parts that have been modified, the writing style differs greatly. Van Valkenburg's writing is very succinct, but not in a way that leaves you feeling like you've missed something. The new authors are more wordy, which some people may like. Personally I find it distracting.-The publisher didn't seem to pay much attention to typesetting. I think this is one of the ugliest typeset textbooks I own. The fonts, the layout, the figures, and even where the figures are laid out in relation to the content is very haphazard. The original '84 text was more elegantly laid out, and was thus much easier on the eyes.-No solutions manual is available. A couple chapters are available on the newest author's website.Overall, a solid textbook if you're interested in the math and theory behind filter design. I believe that you should use this in conjunction with a more practical filter book (like one of the cookbooks) so you get both sides of the story.

The color was a little off and I don't quite understand why to this very day, but it was in perfect condition and I don't regret the purchase because I could read everything easy and there wasn't a single scratch on this book and it was cheaper than my over priced bookstore :D

Supplemental material is a must if you wish to conquer the concepts.
