Factors discussed include environmental and innate factors, common misperceptions and subconscious often resulting from sociocultural programming, and a psychospiritual framework for distinguishing “mind” from “spiritual self.” Although the framework is based on key concepts from Taoist and Buddhist philosophies, the author reframes them for a contemporary audience—such as references to contemporary memes (e.g., animated Disney films, reality TV series Survivor), spiritual authors (e.g., Eckhart Tolle, Wayne Dyer), and quirky, memorable surprises (e.g., illustrations of “The Seven Stages of the Cup”).The central theme is that “[w]hen we were young, we didn’t get to choose what we received in our empty cups.” We learned whatever rules/habits that were needed to survive in the world. “No one is to be blamed. For a long time I’ve wanted to change the way i react to things and better myself spiritually. I’ve always had trouble putting myself out there, not only but I’ve had trouble maintaining a good relationship with my sister. This book put everything simple, and the cup image gave me a good visual. I tried to read The Power of Now but stopped midway, I couldn’t really understand it. I think know I’m on a better path to picking up that book again and giving it a try again.

It didn't really help me since everything that was said in that book was kind of superficial and never went into deeper details, which is what I would have liked.

I could see how some people could relate but I felt like it was focusing on what went wrong in your childhood that is causing your emotional struggles as an adult. I believe here is more to it then that for me personally.

"Life was fun, and there was plenty to do...There were sporting events, festivals, and dances."Roman does it again!In this delightful little story, "you" are transported back to Renaissance Italy to learn all sorts of cool facts about everyday life back then.There's so much information about the fashion, jobs, adventures and art of the time.The author weaves in facts that are both familiar and totally alien to this day and age."You drank ale or watered wine with your meal because everybody knew water was very dangerous to drink"Also, the illustrations were absolutely lovely! (And illustrations so often make-or-break a children's book!).I really enjoyed this one.I am (always) a bit partial to learning about food, so I found it cool that there was so much overlap between current-day and Renaissance Italy cooking:I also really enjoyed how Roman talks about the entire family's careers - from Papa's shop to Mama's beauty routines - there was a lot to be learned.There's even a fun little appendix at the end for all sorts of cool facts about the artists and even more information about common Renaissance Italy terms.

This is a portion of a full review including a few books in a series from Carole P. Roman. Originally published on the Creative Madness Mama blog.ved in... Renaissance Italy has acquired more than seven awards and is intended for grades 4-6. This is Book 2 in An Introduction to Civilizations Through Time series and includes 56 pages. It is currently released through the CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform. This year as we are studying the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Reformation time frame I felt that this book would be a welcome addition to our studies to bring the era alive for my students. While my main child studying this time is my third grade, eight-year-old, all of my children are reaping the benefit of listening to Carole P. Roman's educational and informative text. We are gleaning information on how people lived during the time and how the different classes related and intertwined their castes in their daily lives. Once again, Carole has entertained and kept the attention of my students and left them with history to remember. These books are a great introduction and jumping off point to learn about important biographical characters as well as geography. Make sure to check out the clear and comprehensive glossary at the end of the book as you adventure learning together. Topics can be covered just as they are or more detail can be taken depending on the teacher and student (such as drinking water or not and why...) and don't forget to look at the art! I meant classical art, such as the masterpieces. But I do enjoy the art and illustrations in each of these books as well. As our collection of Carole P. Roman books grow, I am enjoying seeing the different stories told with the skills of multiple artists. Renaissance Italy is portrayed by Silvia Brunetti and accompanying illustrations of Kelsea Wierenga. This book includes pictures, painting, computer digitized art and more and each page is vibrant with interest to see and pour over. (The best kinds of books in my opinion.) This series is truly great for our educational purposes. This material was originally published on the Creative Madness Mama blog.

I’ve previously reviewed a few books from this series, and loved them. Carole P. Roman has a method of entertaining and engaging children that actually works. It’s easy to absorb some of the facts of the time period because she sticks you right in the middle of it. She doesn’t hide some of the stranger practices/ideas of the time. Instead she shoves them to the forefront to give parents or teachers and children something to discuss together. (Such as: not drinking water because everyone knew water was bad.)Then there’s a section on why the Renaissance was so important, and a brief look at famous people from the era. Roman does a great job in putting the changes in art in simple, easy to understand terms. Honestly, I wasn’t aware of all that had changed during that time, so it educated me too. Beyond the people that everyone’s familiar with (Da Vinci, Donatello, etc), she mentions some lesser known figures. For example: Artemesisia Gentileschi. She was apparently one of the most famous female painters of the time.The illustrations are solid, if not exciting. The information is enough to get your child interested without overwhelming them. The series, as a whole, is worth taking a look at, and would make a great addition to a classroom library. However, to be fair, there were a lot of errors in this book that should have been caught by a proof reader. It holds me back from giving it the rating I would have otherwise given it.Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book free for review consideration.

Diana Joyce-Beaulieu, PhD, NCSP, is a faculty member of the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP)-approved and American Psychological Association (APA)-accredited School Psychology Program at the University of Florida. I was looking forward to receiving this book. I have practiced the LHP for 5 years and have been a student of the occult for 20. A decade or more ago I found a fondness for eastern traditions. I had spent time with many religious faith systems including Native Americans and Vodou practitioners. When I saw this book had "Left Hand Taoism" and some information about Vodou leaning towards the left, I was excited to quench my thirst for knowledge.What I ended up with was a ridiculous book, full of tripe trying to be passed off as sinister. This is not a diabolical book, but something written to shock the reader into thinking it's something dark and forbidden. Well, yes, if you did the rituals in this book, you'd indeed be doing something forbidden, and sociopathic. Examples are: digging up the corpse of a dead baby, human sacrifice, and cannibalism. This isn't LHP, it's a bad Ruggero Deodato movie script. It's plagued with typos, misspellings and grammatical errors to boot. What terrible misrepresentation of Satanism. It's something only a rebellious teen-ager would believe it was in any way a representation of any Left Hand Path based belief system, and I've read the "works" of the ONA. I want real practical magick, not some unresearched junk pawned off as true and gritty LHP. I don't think I read one ritual that was truly usable or there wasn't a capital crime involved. What a waste of money. If you're truly interested in the LHP, and want to know more about the darker half and esoteric parts of religions, don't waste your time or hard earned money on this book. And for the love of Lucifer (yes, said in jest) don't believe anything in it to be true, or not a perversion.Thank you for reading my review.

Pretty basic information about several different left handed paths. Several of the rituals and writings have been modified to match the authors "sinister" image. Just like his other book purchased it is an editing nightmare plagued with misspelled words and missing punctuation. I will never buy anyother of this authors material. If you are considering this I would advise against it, there are plenty of other introductory books out there with more accurate and detailed information.

Very interesting. A book not meant for the faint hearted...

The best way to describe this book is a 148 page soft cover manual to be a practical, Left Hand Path Terrorist and sorcerer on the path of 3 different LHP systems. It contains a basic breakdown, couple of rituals and sigils here and there for various sinister traditions around the world. The main focus here is Dark Voodoo, Santa Muerte cult and Quimbanda - exactly as advertised. Although It DOES NOT have everything there is to know about those currents, It contains ENOUGH information to get the neophyte Satanic Terrorist started. Wicked job Mr. Putignano!

There was some good information but was much shorter in length than i expected

I would suggest that if you are under the age of forty, you not read thisBook, since you will not have the will not spiritual development to understandWhat damnation it is.For those forty and over, it is enlightening to see the sigils for Voodoo, a decentExplanation about the Loa. There is much blood-letting, blood-drinking,Animal sacrifice and other things mentioned here, so please read it with caution.An average book.

This book is excellent. It contains the section of Santa Muerte from the now unpublished Grimoire of Asha'Shedim as well as the Pitchfork of Maioral Lucifer which is now expanded. This book also contains a look into Left Hand Voodoo through Kalfu. Finally there is a short piece of Left Hand Tao that although short is interesting. Asha'Shedim has repeated essays in works in the past but from his website he states that he is no longer doing this. He will be releasing a couple books this year "Mark of Qayin" and "Liber Rudra" which the last one will be released by Martinet Press. He has rewritten his past work for these books and included new MS and rituals not found anywhere. He stated that he no longer will recycle his work after these releases. I am excited to get these to see the rewrites as well as the new material. I know Mark of Qayin comes out March 20th but I don't know when Martinet Press is putting out Liber Rudra.Anyways, back to this book. I found it very useful in my work and especially loved the work on Kalfu and the expanded Maioral Lucifer (Quimbanda)...The Lilin Society is a esoteric society and although I am not a member I am a supporter. Hail Satan!!!!!!
