They are all at least relatively funny, and very well-written.I have only found one drawback: there aren't enough of them! I wish he had more limericks in this book. However, I am currently pursuing the mystery of whether or not this author has any other books of limericks.Highly recommended. A great book.

In fact, I typically read a book a week. But never have I read a text which as so clear, and concise. Such a perfect marriage of simplicity and information about the subject. I actually didn't want to put the book down! Which is why I had to know about Mr. Rashid. It became clear to me that this man must be among the greatest teachers EVER!What would you normally expect when you buy a book like this? Lots of math? Plenty of dry paragraphs? Definitions on every page? Theorems and proofs? Well, if you do that in this case, you will be disappointed. Instead, what you find is that you will get exactly what you need to understand the topic, and put it into practice. No more, and no less.Mr. Rashid is an absolute master of communicating just what the reader needs to reach the point of understanding. And to get there, he uses a very simple, step-by-step approach. One that builds directly on what has gone before. No hiding the ball. No leaps in logic. Just a simple explanation that leaves no room for doubt (he works through simple examples to hammer needed points home). And at the end of the journey - and indeed, at many points along the way - where are you? I'll tell you where: you will be saying to yourself "I understand this! I got it! I am so happy I bought this book!"I got an inkling of what was to come when I read the appendices (e.g., about the basics of calculus). I figured the appendices in a book often tell you something about the author - what they decided to include, but not as part of the main text. When I finished them, I wondered why I never had a textbook, or even a teacher, like that? Why couldn't everyone explain things in this manner? I know when I give a lecture I try to make things interesting and easy to understand, but I suspect I've never reached this level, since I've never seen anything like it myself. And I've had almost 20 years in school!In the end, I have no doubt that I can use what I've learned. Indeed, I've got some nifty ideas about some ways to try this out, and am looking forward to doing so. So if you're thinking that the subject might be too difficult for you, I'm here to tell you that if you've got high school math, and even if you don't have a programming background, you can still do this!The bottom line is that if you want to learn about the basics of neural networks, THIS IS THE BOOK TO BUY! Don't even think about anything else. GET THIS BOOK!Oh yes, so who is Mr. Rashid? He's a man that is inspired to explain things to others. To really teach them, so that they can work to carry knowledge forward. But he is also a man that is too modest to publish anything about himself in his own books. Both in building my confidence in my own ability to learn this subject, and in restoring my confidence in others - proving to me that there are still plenty of people that truly want to do something good in this world.And Mr. Rashid, if you read this, I want you to know that you have not failed. No, you have definitely succeeded, in so many ways. Thank you for taking the time to do such great work with this book. I have never seen anything like it, and I hope you will be inspired to continue in your mission. Technical literature is not my favorite genre, not by a long shot, but in your case, I would be proud to stand first in line to buy whatever you care to write. It's that good!

I read several neutral or negative reviews about this book regarding the formatting. I am extremely pleased that I proceeded to purchase and read it despite those reviews.The author presented the core concepts of a simple neural network in the first section with a highly engaging style, taking the reader through each decision and clearly explaining the mathematics required with graphics a physical representation and text. The second section delved into Python code to exercise the concepts and walked through the code in sufficient detail that novice and experienced coders can easily understand the code. The final sections on Calculus refresher and Rasperry Pi are extra benefits for the casual reader. I am glad I elected to overlook the formatting situation, while was annoying at first - it is difficult to resize pages and do appear as PDF pages.

Very well written book with lots of explanatory images, charts, graphs, and a complete source code of a working neural network built step by step through the book. It takes the reader through building a real, working neural network without any required prior knowledge of complex math or any deep learning theory.The theory and the inner workings of the NN is explained first in a very approachable way, then in the next part the actual python program is being created, again in a very approachable and well explained way.My only regret is that it stops short from explaining some more advanced concepts like convolution layers, pooling layers, etc, that are found in modern neural networks for computer vision. Don't be put off by that though, it still explains A LOT of interesting and important concepts.For someone like me who didn't have a clue how NN work only a month ago this book was the perfect eye opener that gave me the foundations for future learning.Thanks Tariq, well done with the book!

This is a very nice introduction into Neural Networks. I have been recommending this to my friends and family. Even if you are afraid of the mathematics involved, the appendix in the book covers what you need to know in order to make sense of the math (most of it is simple algebra) with just a bit of derivatives that involve the chain rule. This is one of the few books that not only goes over the theory but also the step by step implementation (training your network to recognize handwritten numbers in Python) as well as testing the code and making minor tweaks to show how that will affect the overall accuracy of the network. For an added bonus, the author includes a chapter describing how you can train the network to recognize your own handwriting and things you can do to further increase the accuracy.Even though I highly recommend this book, there are a few grammatical errors as well as labels being incorrect in a few of the diagrams. You can still get through the book without the errors taking away from the content. I'm sure in future revisions, most of these errors will be corrected. Aside from that, I am pleased with my purchase of this book. Money well spent and I will continue referring back to this book.

The book itself can be painful to work through, as it is written for a novice, not just in algorithms and data analysis, but also in programming. For the neural network aspect, it jumped between overly simplistic and complicated, while providing neither in enough detail. That said, by the end I found it a worthwhile dive into neural networks, since once it got to the programming structure, it all made sense, but only because I stuck with it.

As a 12er Shia Muslim, I believe that Gautama Buddha was a Prophet of God. What I like about Thay's approach is that he allows Theists to participate in his practice centers. He is known for helping people whether or not they are Buddhists. He was criticized by Communists and non-Communists for helping anyone in need during the Vietnam War. That is only one example of what I would call his "charity work". Of all the books by Buddhist authors on my shelf, this book and a few other books by Thich Nhat Hanh are my favorites.I began doing sitting and walking meditation using this book. Later, I purchased his commentaries on various sutras, as well as The Heart of Truth. The most recent book I read by Thay was Old Path, White Clouds: Walking in the Footsteps of the Buddha, which is actually the first book I would recommend one read by Thich Nhat Hanh. This book is a biography of Gautama Buddha that seems to be written for one who will be practicing Thich Nhat Hanh's flavor of Rinzai Zen Buddhism. After reading Old Paths, White Clouds, I believe a practitioner with no practice center nearby would have a bit easier time using Chanting from the Heart than if he or she started practicing only having the knowledge in this book.Of course, as a 12er Shia Muslim, I make Salat prayer, seek refuge in Allah, and read Quranic Sutras and follow the halal food laws. For those Buddhists who not only Five Mindfulness Trainings (5 Precepts) but are also Vegetarian or Vegan or just eat raw foods, those are excellent diets. Meat is allowed for Muslims, but Muslims are not obligated to eat meat. Thus, it is possible for a Muslim to practice the Five Mindfulness Trainings and even follow a meatless diet. In fact, the 1st of our 12 Imams, Ali Ibn Talib, who is the 4th Caliph of Sunni Muslims, wrote that one should not eat much meat. He also wrote that all people are either one's brother or sister in Islam, or one's equal in Adam, so a true Muslim ought to treat non-Muslims charitably and justly. That may seem like too much information, but I wrote the above for those Buddhists who may have had bad experiences with professing Muslims. Plenty of Sunni and Shia Muslims, including Sufis, love the Buddha and Buddhists. I am especially appreciative of Thich Nhat Hanh, as well as Theravada monk Bhikkhu Buddhi, who has produced a good large compilation of suttas and excerpts of suttas from the Pali Canon, as well as a good short book on the Eightfold Noble Path.Be happy practicing with Chanting From the Heart!

(A blessing ceremony and wedding ceremony are also included.) A section of discourses is next, and last is a section of music. It is a beefy book - 431 pages to be exact, and a nice ribbon marker is included in the binding.Even though Thich Nhat Hanh is a Zen Master, I have easily incorporated many of these practices into my daily Tibetan Buddhist routine.This is a great resource for the beginner or well-seasoned practitioner. I looked forward to getting the map, especially since it said Белару́сь on one side. Well, there are roads shown, but not all the useful ones are there in the frontier areas, the scale is OK, but this is not a map that you're going to use easily while driving. The roads are in a red or yellow colour set against a dark green topographic background, which makes them really hard to see. And the place names are in small black Roman characters. There aren't very many road signs to begin with in Belarus (Белару́сь), but I would have expected many of the places to at least be shown in the Cyrillic characters. It's fine if you ask an older person in the northwest part for help because they might not even answer if you speak Russian or write Cyrillic, but you will get a cheerful reply asking in Polish and writing Roman characters. But if it's someone younger, you'll get a blank Я не понимаю (I don't understand) look unless you write Cyrillic and спросите на русском языке. So if you want a map to pin on the wall at home, it's OK, but if you're going tp use it to explore, then take some Google map printouts until you find a better map in a Минск аэропорт (airport) shop.

I have looked at the map but not really used it as I haven't been to Belarus yet. Info on Bellarus is sparse in any form, so I hope this map will help me navigate

The book is just easy reading, and has a good deal of humor. The book is just great to give to someone who has been in the hospital and is now convalescing either in rehab or at home. The book seems to be well received by those who are 50 or older. My wife read a copy which had been loaned to us, and was the mover in purchasing a few copies.

This book was a disappointment. Kind of a messy hodge podge trying for relevance but coming off as a cute effort to uplift and entertain. I was actually bored by its mediocrity.

First off, this book is seriously overpriced. $15 for a 28 page pamphlet that reads like a high school essay?When it comes to Magic: The Gathering, I am the definition of a "beginner." I heard people talking about it, thought it looked neat, so I bought a booster box, which came with a d20 dice and a "quick reference guide." No instructions on how to play, though. So I bought a 2 player starter deck. Still no rules included, just the quick reference. Same for the full size deck.So I looked to Amazon for a rulebook instead. Alas, while this book explains that there are different styles of play and gives the same "this is how a turn works" explanation that the reference card does, it's still written from an in-the-know perspective that isn't helpful for a true beginner. What do the numbers on the cards mean? I get that one is attack and one is defense, but how is damage calculated? Attack vs Attack? Attack vs Defense? When do players take damage to their life points? Can one creature block multiple attackers, and if so, do the damages stack? I can play one land per turn, and creatures require lands (and mana? do you have to tap a land to summon a creature?) to be summoned, so does that mean it will likely take a few turns before I have a creature on the field, since most seem to cost more than one land? (Again, I'm unclear on what the lands/numbers on the cards mean, and the book doesn't explain)Also, why bother using footnote references if they all go to links to some "powerlists.org" website?I find the back cover of the book pretty condescending as well. "What happens if you ignore your lack of knowledge?" "What you can do today to kiss your losing goodbye." "What happens when you don't let life pass you by?" "P.S. You'll be ready to jump into tournament play within 24 hours." Please.Waste of money. I'd be better off watching youtube videos of people playing MtG.

I bought this book for a 15 year old and ended up giving it to my 7 year old because I was so embarrassed of it. This book is a waste of time and money! It had fewer pages in it than a book a 1st grader would read! If I could have given it no stars I would have! I hope this keeps someone else from wasting their money on this book!

This book is not very helpful. All of the information in this guide is available for free online. Don't waste your money.

I have never played a game yet and there was nothing new in this book(overview) that I haven't already read from the Magic website. I was expecting some strategy and deck building with examples. It would be nice to explain how and why the pre-packaged decks work with examples. Disappointed. I would not recommend.

For a novice there needs to be better explanation of symbols and card meanings. Rules to casting how blocking affects both players.

It is a very helpful guide for beginners who want to know more about the rules and guidelines of Magic The Gathering. A player must learn the rules such as Formats, The Turn, The Cards, and Preparing for Play. Every rule has a set of rules that players should follow. This book is not just about the rules of the game but it will also tell you what attitude you need to show whenever you're playing. Although I am not yet an expert of the game at least I can now be confident to play because I already have the knowledge on the rules and guidelines that I learned from this book.

The second installment of the Correia’s Son of the Black Sword series was worth the wait.The first book ended on something of a cliffhanger, with Thera the reluctant prophetess captured by a secret society of shapeshifting assassins intent on using her powers for their own ends.While she learns more about this secretive group and the goals of the hostile sea demons, Ashok Vidal, the former Protector who has realized his whole life had been a lie, must find the secret location of his hidden House of Assassins.And all the while, the evil Inquisitors continue their plot to consolidate power in the Capital and carry out a genocide against the casteless of the continent of Lok.Correia takes the opportunity to explore more of this fascinating world. Ashok grows into his role as a hero and leader, holding on to this honor while learning things aren’t always as black and white as he was trained to believe. We learn more about Thera’s mysterious past and the action doesn’t let up. By the end, we’re treated to still more revelations that only whetted my appetite for the next and presumably final installment.That would be my only criticism: this is apparently a trilogy, so the matter of the House is wrapped up, but I almost wish there was still another book dealing with the subject. Gutch is becoming my stand-out favorite and easily worth a book of his own, and Kira the assassin had potential and could have gone in some interesting directions. But apparently Correia is trying to err on the other side of the Martins and Jordans of the world and their bloated series. A sensible decision then.

Mr. Correia knocks it out of the park again! Love the continuation of the tale of Ashok. He is always a must buy, can never go wrong.

Many authors do action well. Others do Characters well. Some are great with plot. In this book, Larry nails all three. Ashok, the main character, seems very much like a blunt object in the first book and the story emphasizes how predictable in his actions he is. As he is exposed to more and more of the world, the reader sees that simplicity crumble in the face of the world's complexity and the weight of having choice. In a way, it's a coming of age story, and for someone to do that with a character who has already lived a great life is a pretty spectacular accomplishment. And this is woven into Larry's typically amazing action sequences and twisting plots.I can't recommend this series highly enough and can't wait for the next book.

This is the second book in the series and it picks up where the last one left off. Excellent pacing and a fantastic story made it hard to put down. Great character development of the main character as well as many of the secondary characters. I can really see how the events are changing them. Can't wait for the next (final?) book in the series.

Truthfully, I had given up on reading a sequel to Book 1. Delighted it finally happened. My hope is that Book 3 won't take as long. Guaranteed great read for fantasy sword play and wizardry fans.

Nothing special in this one. Ashik, the indestructible protagonist with convenient magical power takes on ever bigger monsters and conquers. There isn't as much intrigue and plotting in the second book but there is a bit more character development, to the point that Keta is also now an indestructible super powerful being with convenient magic powers. So now they're a potentially cute couple. It's a tasty cheeseburger of a fantasy book. I'll likely read it again on a work trip, especially if the audio version isn't ridiculously priced.

This is the author's most complex series to date. Fans of his other series will enjoy because the book has plenty of action. Read it and decide for yourself.

Larry Corriera at the top of his game!!! I even enjoyed this book more than Nemesis which was my favorite of the Monster Hunter series. A fascinating world being created with it's own rules and monsters and gods to fight against the hero. Highly recommended. I just wish the next book was out already.

Absolutely one of the best devotionals ever for children and for the whole family

This is an awesome devotional book for children and adults alike. Along with their season medals, I purchased one of these devotional books for each of my softball players and gave them to them at the end of the season party. The girls LOVED this book. Each devotional in this book is well thoughtout with scripture references and baseball facts/analogies. I grew up playing softball and our coach always had "Sunday School" when we were away playing on the weekend. This book would be an excellent choice for a travel ball team manager, coach or parent who wants to make sure that the message of Jesus is presented to players even when the players can't be in "church". I look forward to reading more devotionals by Amy McNeill.

Primo Levi, similar to Elie Wiesel, is so closely associated in my mind with The Holocaust, and Holocaust literature, that I was surprised to find that in THE PERIODIC TABLE, Levi rarely touches on it directly. And yet, as a memoir of his life as a chemist both before and after Auschwitz, the entire book is freighted with the knowledge of his time in the camps; similar, perhaps, to a biography of a man born with a serious birth defect, and how this background knowledge forces the reader to reevaluate the simple tasks of living that he'd previously taken for granted. Simultaneously, as a part of Levi's entire oeuvre, I also had the feeling that THE PERIODIC TABLE was a statement, an affirmation by Levi, who HAD become associated so closely with The Holocaust, saying, in effect, `I am not Auschwitz. I am a chemist.'Regardless, as others have noted, THE PERIODIC TABLE is a collection of stories--some true and some fiction, and each tied to one of the elements of the Periodic Table by some detail in the story. For instance, the first chapter, titled `Argon', contains a brief explanation of the group of gases that Argon belongs to--The Noble Gases:"There are the so-called inert gases...They bear curious Greek names of erudite derivation which mean `the New,' `the Hidden,' `the Inactive,' and `the Alien.' They are indeed so inert, so satisfied with their condition, that they do not interfere in any chemical reaction, do not combine with any other element, and for precisely this reason have gone undetected for centuries."Levi then goes on to interweave anecdotes about the Jewish community he knew growing up as a child in Italy, and one quickly picks up on the association between the Noble gases and this community. Most of the rest of the stories are not quite so allegorically tied to the elemental heading, though there always remains a hint of it. The early chapters I thought were dense and philosophical, which surprised me for some reason, though I either grew accustomed to Levi's style, or the stories became more straightforward as the book went on. I also found that after the initial pages, I thought the book captivating--which, again, given the episodic nature of the stories, was surprising. The long and the short of it is that, although I expected to enjoy the book, I enjoyed it for none of the reasons I suspected I would.It is not an easy book to categorize. Part fiction, part memoir; little direct mention of The Holocaust, and yet the book is entirely infused with it--I hesitate to call it unique, but I do think it stands apart. A very intriguing book.

What can a little Midwest housewife write about Primo Levi? These autobiographical chapters, each bearing the name of a chemical element as a title, and interspersed with short stories, a written with a deft yet delicate touch, referring to but not dwelling on the horror Levi's experience as an inmate of Auschwitz. Touching in a completely unsentimental way, beautiful, really.

Periodic table' is a chemist's blueprint of the fascinating elements that make up our world. It was insightful to read this biographical account by Primo Levi, a Jewish chemist in Auschwitz, both during and thankfully after Nazi atrocity. True to its name, the focus is on his adventures with chemistry - chemistry as a man's passion, as well as a means to sustain in a big bad world. Reading about chapters on different elements definitely piqued this organic chemist's interest. It was a down memory lane on archaic inorganic analysis from B.Sc. days. Admittedly decades back during the author's time, exposure awareness and safety concerns were near non-existant and some of Levi's trysts were jaw-dropping to me as a modern practitioner (much akin to walking a tightrope without safety net!). Life of a chemist in a very difficult historical period, synthesized out of various "element"al chapters - awesome!

No, this book will not teach you what you missed in Chem 101. It is instead a stirring memoir of an Italian Jew ,a chemist, who survived the years of Italian Fascism and the subsequent Nazi occupation, by the the force of his creativity and sensitivity to the harrowing events that befell him. The memoir feels like a set of short stories. Each chapter is named for a chemical element.The use of this device was incredibly creative. In one case, Chapter 2 Hydrogen, the author recounts his teenage adventure with a friend, that generated hydrogen from water. In another chapter, Iron, the author describes his best friend and their mountain adventures. The friend seemed to have the qualities of Iron. Just as the elements have personalities- that is, they share, steal or give up electrons to form bonds with other elements, people also have personalities- resilient, affiliative, inert- and Dr. Levi draws parallels between these chemical and human personalities.And what stories he has to tell. A romance that might have been. Surviving a death camp by making flints for cigarette lighters. Uncovering a Nazi in a postwar business relationship. 3 amazing chapters which are wholly works of fantasy- not biography at all. The last chapter is a chemical story, the story of one element without a human subtext, the most important element to life on earth.The book is a tour de force, and a tribute to the fascination of scientific inquiry and experiment.

Primo Levi was a clever young man and he wanted you to know that. His use of members of the Periodic Table as a device to illuminate his characters is sometimes an overreach, sometimes silly and sometimes well honed. That he had intense experiences and met many people worthy of a good story, is not in dispute. As a writer and as a character in his own stories, he made me wish I'd known him as a friend.
