She’repith hapletah – the Saved Remnant, the “few who escaped,” they were known. The Final Solution during the Holocaust was supposed to eradicate the Jewish population of Europe, literally roots and all, and it nearly succeeded. In the spring after World War II, in 1946, a group of these displaced persons met in Munich, Germany, to celebrate one of the most poignant and meaningful Passover Seders in history. In normal times, the theme of the holiday is the escaped from servitude and darkness, and looking with hope and deliverance in better times. Of course, this year, those themes would take on added meaning. The Haggadah (meaning “retelling”) used at that Seder reflected that in both traditional and novel ways.Our book actually begins almost exactly a half century later, in the spring of 1996, when a Brandeis University professor named Saul Touster was going through one of his father’s files, when a most unusual booklet fell out. Beneath a simple letter A enclosed in red and blue circles were the words “Passover Service,” with the year 1946. Within the covers Dr. Touster found pages with Hebrew type surrounded with borders that contained striking images contrasting the symbols of the Holocaust with others of the Promised Land by a Polish survivor named Yosef Dov Scheinson, interspersed with striking woodcuts depicting the toil of enslavement by a Hungarian artist, Miklos Adler, all supplementing the usual visual representation one would expect to find in a Haggadah.One of the most dramatic pages is dominated by a large Hebrew letter Beth, symbolic of the phrase “Bechol dor” (In the beginning…), the very first words of Genesis, the first book of the Torah. Here it also stands for “Brause Bad” (shower bath), as well as “brichal” (fleeing west), two themes that recur throughout this Haggadah. Other border designs incorporate images of the Promised Land and the Holocaust – on the same page! “We were slaves to Hitler in Germany,” our Haggadah opens, before going into the Seder, the order of the Passover observance. Much more, it preserves – through retelling – the precious memory of a history that must be told, when Passover was truly a t’shuvah, a redemption, coming home, a passing from darkness to light.

Not a traditional haggadah by any means but a very interesting book as history none the less. If you are a history buff with an interest in the WW2 era, or a collector of haggadot, put this one into your collection.I have owned (or given away or traded) a LOT of books over my lifetime. This is one book that will stay in my collection!

For anyone who is interested in either Passover, or the history of the Jews during and after the Holocaust, I recommend this book highly. It is an addition to the traditional service, and does not have a format of a start to finish Haggadah. It is more for historical value and understanding.

I bought a used copy and was so very pleased. The artwork is taken from the actual haggadah. It is impressive, a wonderful addition to any library or haggadot collection.

The content of the book is vivid and very powerful. The book itself, as printed is disappointing. Somehow I expected it to be rougher and less like a 21st century printed book. I had expected a simulation of an old book, with "woodcut" pictures and old type,

This is a wonderful book that is a guiding example of the ability for the Jews of the Holocaust to survive the incomprehensible and still not give up on their faith.

I didn't know what to expect. I wanted it for an historic document and for that it is so sad but perfect. We must not forget.

This was a really great read, it was incredibly heartfelt and despite some crazy situations it was still very down to earth. One thing this book had going for it was the way it was written in alternating voices. The authors, Green and Levithan, each took turns writing from the point of view of their respective Will Graysons. And they wrote the characters in completely different ways, the way the chapters are written corresponds with and highlights the differences between the two Will's.The characters themselves were amazingly easy to understand. Even though I couldn't actually relate to any of the situations they were in I still felt like the feelings were conveyed really well. The depression one of the Will's suffers was explained very realistically in the book and was handled in a way I haven't seen in many books before. He isn't discovering his depression, he's just at the point where he's living with it and it isn't romanticized. The other Will is going through problems with his love life (with Jane) and his friendship (with Tiny). I connected really well with the problems he was facing with Tiny and I felt it was solved in a wonderfully touching way.Overall I read this book in only a few hours, so it was a pretty quick read for me. I just didn't want to put it down. It was incredibly funny to the point where i actually was laughing out loud and by the end I had cried at least once. I would recommend this to most readers as a great book about love and friendship.

Unlike other John Green books, this one did not have me curled up on my bed crying for hours. However, it still had that "can't-put-it-down" quality that all of his books seem to have. I brought this thing with me everywhere- I would read it while waiting in the car, I would bring it to work and read it when business was slow, and I would read it in the middle of the night when I knew I should be getting some sleep. I absolutely fell in love with Tiny and both of the Will Grayson characters in this book and the story line was great. I have so many books on my reading list, and I'm glad I checked this one off.

Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan is about 2 Will Grayson's and their life. I have to say I was not the craziest fan of this book under a third of the way in. The stories of both Will Grayson's separately didn't captivate me as when they actually meet. When they meet the story was amazing. I kept thinking about the book when I was not reading the book. Okay so Will Grayson 1, best friend's with Tiny and is known around school. Will Grayson 2, ex-boyfriend to Maura, and figuring out that he is gay. When their worlds collide it changes both of them for the better. They figure out what they want out of a relationship and learn to do something with said relationship. The reader keeps wondering how this story will go and what will happen to these two Will Grayson's. Funny and heartbreaking at times, David Levithan and John Green wrote an amazing book.Some of my favorite quotes:-That's the thing about Tiny: his problems are so huge that yours can hide behind them.-If anyone ever uses lol with me, I rip my computer right out of the wall and smash it over the nearest head.-You like someone who can't like you back because unrequited love can be survived in a way that once-requited love cannot.-One of these days, I keep telling myself, you'll learn to truly shut up and not care.-But I mean, why do you have to fix the salad? Who broke it? I didn't touch it. Did you break the salad, mom? If you did, YOU'D BETTER FIX IT!-Being gay is not an excuse for being a dick.-It's all about falling you land and get up so you can fall again it's all about falling I won't be afraid to hit the wall again.

Basically I loved this book. It's funny and for some reason I'm not sure I understand I want to call it adorable. This is the story of Tiny Cooper, Will Grayson #1's (aka John Greens Will Grayson) best friend and Will Grayson #2's(David Levithans) eventual love interest. The book is about two Will Graysons' who randomly meet and the way their lives change afterwards. It's about Tiny Dancer, Tiny Coopers life in the form of a musical. It's about love and depression and friendship and I could go on but basically it's just really fun. I don't know that everyone or anyone sees it this way but for me that's all it was. It has these more serious moments and it has parts that are kinda unbelievable and at one point or another every character is unlikable and they all have flaws and some parts in this book are just plain annoying but overall it's just fun. I feel like this is not a book that takes itself seriously which I love. I don't imagine it's one of those books that can change your life or the way you see things it's just a book that is extremely fun to read.(Jeez why don't I say fun one more time?) Fun. I'm not gonna say it had the best plot or the best characters or the best hidden message or that it was even the funniest book I've ever read, I'm just saying I really enjoyed reading it and that's enough for me. It didn't give me all the feels but also it didn't annoy me to no end or make me want to smash my head against the wall. It's not a book that I will never forget but it is a book that I will read over and over again and that's really all you can ask a book to be isn't it? Something you want to read again and again just because it's fun?Okay that's the end of this increasingly weird/bad review!Would I Recommend This? YesWho To? People who just want a good book that can make them laugh and that they don't have to take too seriously.Will I read more from this author(or series)? Is that even a question?

THEODORA LAU has authored The Handbook of Chinese Horoscopes, Best-Loved Chinese Proverbs, The Chinese Horoscopes Guide to Relationships, and Chinese Horoscopes for Your Child. First published in 1979, Theodora's book The Handbook of Chinese Horoscopes has been translated into over 17 languages and her books have introduced many topics of Chinese culture to readers all over the world. She was born in Shanghai and later moved to southern California with her husband, Kenneth Lau, whose calligraphy and woodcut illustrations adorn the pages of the book.
