I received the 2019 Essentials Support for Medical Necessity and sat down with it after supper. Looked through every chapter and found the little things that us coders need information for that takes hours of your time to find. I really appreciated the topics discussed and the information reviews on guidelines and such. This book will definitely be a go to resource in my auditing and documentation improvement assignments for the future. Professionally written for professional persons. The clarity in this resource book is spot on. This is not a book for beginners but for professionals with several years experience. There are some but not a lot of information that most professionals will already have branded to their memory, but it is the little things that this book gives that makes the difference. The ONLY thing that would be beneficial is an index, however, I respect AMA's point of view. This is not a beginner's book. We already know our anatomy and etiology of diseases/conditions so we would also know ICD-10-CM/PCS right? An added index would be a crutch. I believe this book was introduced to keep you on top of knowledge rather than search, grab and move on. I will probably use this book every time for auditing or answer questions.
