Leadbeater's "The Hidden Side of Things" is 95% description of the spiritual background to mundane things as he and his fellow Theosophists see it. The other 5% concern practical matters such as how to begin to cultivate an awareness of such things as auras, spirits, and extraplanar energies.What I enjoyed about this book was his clairvoyant descriptions of the emanations which result from certain things such as the worship in churches, the presence of different kinds of environments (from peaceful parks to horrifying slaughterhouses), and even the tone of interactions between sentient beings (adults & children, humans & animals, nature spirits, etc.). I do not doubt many of these descriptions are accurate.What I found uncompelling however were the Theosophical teachings regarding the planes of existence and their number & organization, the various "root-races", the alternative history (Atlantis), and the other various teachings that may have resulted from sources as spurious as the Blavatskian Theosophy which CWL espouses. Combine this with subtle anti-democratic, pro-socialist statements (democracy is bad, socialism is enlightened to paraphrase his insinuations) and we have the makings of what are most likely delusional fantasies as (in)valid as the line of succession from the Liberal Catholic Church (of which CWL was a Bishop of).All in all this is an interesting read for those who accept (and preferably have seen, so as not to take it on blind faith) the existence of a hidden sub-stance to our phenomenal reality. His recommendations to begin working on the ability to concentrate with single-mindedness are good ones; however the prohibitions against meat, alcohol, and tobacco may be a bit overblown (though with a grain of truth to them - some people will find they can handle these things better than others during psychic development). I recommend this for those already "in the know" with regards to such matters, but I do recommend researching the history and development of Theosophy so the reader can understand where some of these ideas come from and is better able to judge for him or herself the veracity of those claims.
This book is a trip.Hugely detailed descriptions of the purported astral and causal appearances of a broad array of phenomena, from nasty thoughts to rose bushes to church bells ringing.Obviously, for the new disciple there is the distraction of getting caught up in the accounts of these lower planes, but for fun, as a sort of clairvoyant travelogue of the unseen world, entertaining and fascinating stuff.If your meditation is done for the day, relax with this. It beats the ugly news of the world.
Very valuable book to any real student on the Path of mastering oneself and understanding the things they may see, that most do not.
Love this book. It's rich and covers every aspect of life with revealing truth about the invisible side and full of practical advises. Worth to read 7 times, so I'm going to get a paper copy.
This book is really out there, which I like! Lots of interesting topics covered. Even the cover is interesting (hint - it looks black, but it's really not all black.) I'm still not done with this book & I'm savoring it. It's that intersting.
The writer has not focus on the hidden side of things but instead some vaque explanations .some part of the work can only be better understood by the clavoyant.I recommend this book for all who have attained clavoyance.
