About the Author

Sinead Walsh served as Ireland’s ambassador to Sierra Leone and Liberia at the height of the Ebola epidemic. She is currently a senior visiting fellow at the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative. Oliver Johnson was country director for King’s Sierra Leone Partnership. He is now a strategic and technical advisor to the charity Africa Health Placements and a visiting lecturer at King’s College London.

View of different parties addressed.Fulfiled medical interest with timeline.I like how it narrated.The politics and frontline situation are cosely related.Community evolution is well recorded.It empower people to do something more.After reading, it will give tons of reflection. I am really grateful for living in place with adaquate health care.

Incredible read and an immense piece of work by the authors! There is probably no better read out there on crisis management and particularly regarding Ebola.Equal parts frustrating and enlightening even if frustrating in an enlightening way. Rich details and stories fron heroes from Sierra Leone and away that need to be remembered.I was in Sierra Leone at the tail end of the Ebola crisis and so much of this resonated with me as I stayed over the next few years. Wish I'd been able to read this before I got there.Practical recommendations on navigating the coordination of a crisis, various dimensions of ngo, donor, government, and multilateral politics, and some high level ideas that are easy and necessary to replicate when designing programs that need intensive community engagement. Highly recommended!

I couldn't put this book down. It was terrifying and inspiring, both at the same time. A must read in order to understand how lucky the world was because of just a few individuals and how slow worlds reactions are when it comes to events taking place in African countries.
