It's a good text for young, beginning singers. The selection of songs are excellent. I wish some simple rounds had been included in case the text is used for groups, however, there are plenty of round collections available for young singers. Good attention paid to support and breathing skills, vowel formation and posture.I'm a retired vocal coach and choral director, having taught for 40 years. The only thing I would question would be the physical "warm-ups." I didn't find them to be very beneficial during my tenure as a teacher, nor did my colleagues. They were rather disruptive to the rehearsal. Would rather spend that time on vocal warm-ups. I know that is a controversial topic among vocal teachers. Everyone has to do what they think is best for their group.All in all, a good text. I would recommend it.
This book is pretty wonderful. It is my go to method book for vocal instruction with kids. I actually use it on older students sometimes just because of how well they laid out the exercises. There aren't too many vocal method books that make sense to bothe the teacher and student. The only thing I hate...there's no teen or adult version of this book. They could literall do the same exercises, just make the wording and pictures more mature. PLEASE GREGORY BLANKENGEHLER!!!! MAKE AN ADULT VERSION!!!
This is a wonderful publication for teaching younger kiddos the basic techniques of singing when a parent wishes them to have voice lessons. The physical warmups and the techniques begin the understanding of good singing. The songs are generally instructive and fun. I never have a bored child while teaching from this book. It is appropriate for private lessons or a group. [The newest version (very young beginner series) is very nicely set for a group and has completely different songs.]
I purchased this book to use with my voice students. It is a wonderful teaching guide. I love that it breaks things down very simply to make concepts easy to understand. Although it says it is for "Little Singers" I use it with my older students as well! The visual aids have really helped my students grasp the concepts we have been talking about. I recommend it to all of my new students and to my colleagues as well.
Finally, a book which combines sight reading and warm up exercises! I like the intervallic, step by step approach, the units introduce each interval separately and there are even recommendations for the song repertoire. We really are in need of the similar book for older children/teens as one revewier pointed out.
This is the best book I have found for voice students in elementary school. It clearly explains concepts on their level so that they can understand and demonstrate them at their lesson and at home. Highly recommended. I'm hoping for a "Singing Lessons for Little Singers Level 2" to be published soon!
This book is well put together with age appropriate exercises and simple songs. I am using it with a young child female singer and her older sibling is accompanying her on the piano from the lead sheets in the book. They can work together at home this way and we are getting extra mileage out of this great book. (By using the simple tunes to teach the older student how to play off of lead sheets as well.) I really appreciate what Gregory Blankenbehier has put together here. It is very helpful for my piano/voice studio with singers of all ages.
I have piano students who want to sing, so this is a great resource. It lays out exercises and lesson plans in a logical easy to understand manner. I wish there was a book geared more toward my students age, though. They are 9, 10 and 11 years old.
