This was an "Auld Lang Syne" read for me. I graduated in 1982 and this had the feel of the 80's genre, took me right back to high school. The characters conveyed the raw and real emotions of how times were then. For me, life felt more real in the 20th century, maybe because we did not have all the hi tech gadgets to communicate with making communication more up close and personal. Karen Gordon really captures all the sentiments and emotions of that coming to age period. I look forward to reading more from her.

I felt like I was transported into the life of the wonderful main character in this book, sharing her emotions, pains and triumphs. When the movie comes out, I'll be the first one to buy a ticket! I'm imagining Emma Stone as Carrie, Mila Kunis as MG, and Channing Tatum as Ben. Well done Karen Gordon!

I quite enjoyed this book with a great look into to the life of bored teenagers just looking for love. This is a debut book and I feel like there is a lot of potential.

This was a great read! Enjoyed it from start to finish and bought the next book! The story was full of unexpected twists and turns, rises and falls! I truly enjoyed it and can't wait for more from this author.

Karen Gordon weaves a story of teenage relationships and tribulations that keeps the reader interested all the way through. Burnouts, Geeks and Jesus Freaks is a romance novel with a little spice and a plot that keeps the reader wondering how it will turn out. I read a lot of books that appear on "must read" lists that seem to fall in the 700 page tome category. Tho' not a tome, Karen's storytelling is certainly comparable to the abilities of many of today's popular authors. A good first effort by the author, and a recommendation for the beach, vacation, or just easy reading.

This was an amazing book! I loved it! I couldn't put it down. I think I read it in 2 sittings:) I loved Carrie and her trials she endured. She was a very real character. Karen Gordon made you feel like all of these characters were a part of your life. I was definitely sucked in. I was sad when the book ended but will make it a priority to read each and every book that Karen Gordon writes!!

I don’t typically read Love stories, but this was great! lots of great elements, Drama, adult content, found love, lost love, heartache and joy; Definitely gives Nicholas sparks a run for his money! I am looking forward to the next one!

I savored this book and have gifted it twice! As someone who knew nothing about, nor had much interest in Tango-- I found myself captivated by Flaherty's depiction of a vibrant subculture-- its characters, rules, rhythms, and experiential entry fees. For those who found the memoir dark, I couldn't disagree more. Flaherty demonstrates restraint in all the places where the story could have pooled into wells of self-indulgence. The writing is spry and direct-- unflinching when it needs to be, and always lively. The descriptions of New York were enough to make a former resident long for her lost bodega. I deeply enjoyed wandering the city from within this author's gaze, and think that you will too.

I don’t know if it’s because I’ve recently taken up Argentine Tango as a new hobby or because I’m also a writer, but this book was delightful to read. The author was very adept at merging the history of Tango into her experiences with learning the dance and all that comes with it. How she used the world of Tango as almost a character in her story was very clever. It gave depth and intrigue to her romantic relationships that otherwise would have gone unnoticed. I would definitely recommend this book to anybody who has ever struggled in life and who might be curious about the world of Tango!

I read Meghan's manuscript a while back. It's years in the making. It's a book about the growing pains, finding true meaning of life, and tango history all in one. Best tango book ever. Buy it!!

She has so many great tips & lessons to learn, I love the section about being in the now and visualization. It is the perfect size to take with you and it's one to come back to again and again ✨ she also teaches a class that I try to go to every Tuesday night unplug meditation. It also is a great gift. I recommend it to all!

This tiny book packs a powerful punch within the realm of self-help books. Camilla Sacre-Dallerup's writing is approachable and comprehendible without being degrading or dismissive to the reader. So often, books of this nature will make the reader feel as if he/she has done something wrong to be in a position to need/want to change their lives and only the author can "save them."Not so with Sacre-Dallerup, she has been where the reader is - realizing her life was not what she wanted and trying to figure out what to do and how to do it. She is a comrade in the reader's journey; telling her own story while explaining how to reinvent oneself even when there is no clue as to what is wanted - only the knowledge that change has to happen because what is currently in place no longer works and results in unhappiness.Of course not everything Sacre-Dallerup presents is applicable to every reader, such is always the case with self-help books, but her approach is thoughtful and useful. A simple outline of the word "reinvent" is her road map and she takes these eight key points and weaves them into a guide for improvement. There is an extensive “Further Reading” list full of excellent recommendations by many outstanding writers. Reinvent Me is not overwhelming nor is it minuscule in nature - it is solid and insightful and definitely worth the time to read. Sacre-Dallerup offers a positive, inspirational and highly motivated viewpoint to an universal issue faced by everyone at some point in time during their lives.

I just finished Camilla’s book and found it to be lovely. Even though I have already been through a successful reinvention, I still wanted to give the book a read since I have been enjoying taking her meditation classes in LA. Her book was extremely inspiring, straightforward, and uncomplicated. She outlined a complete plan that covers all the bases towards a successful reinvention. As I had suffered through a burnout and major career change, I know firsthand that it can be done and it doesn't have to be difficult. Camilla made it the book easily comprehensible for all levels with a guide of exercises and personal anecdotes at the end of each section, making the book very practical. My favorite parts of the book were reading the stories about others successful reinventions, one of my personal favorite success stories was Suze’s story about creating the unplug meditation studio as a pioneer in her field. Her story really resonated with me as I am creating a business that is unique and off the beaten path, many people tell me it can’t be done. I love hearing about brave individuals that go running towards their dreams! I’d highly recommend this book to anyone that is feeling stuck in their career or personal life and is looking for a simple, step-by-step plan to making changes actually happen. Camilla has a wonderful energy and it shines through the pages in this book, she is truly an inspiration!

After reviewing this book I was a bit disappointed. I have been making Ebelskivers for many decades and I was hoping this book would teach me something new. I found this book to be thin and focused on some alterations of recipes but no real fundamental information. First, only one style of batter is offered with a few flavor modifications. Not mentioned is varying the leavening, such as using yeast. Second, no discourse of fat. Is it better to fry the Ebelskiver in butter, margarine or cooking oil? The results can vary and although each can produce a good product, one will leave the Ebelskiver crispy. Third, the authors offer slim help with turning technique which is the most difficult part of making this dish. If done properly, the Ebelskiver will be hollow in the middle: THE HOLY GRAIL of Ebelskiver. This objective is not to be found anywhere within this book. The turning tool suggested is fine but no other options are presented. Many long time cooks use crochet hooks for turning. I am afraid that a neophyte using the instruction of this book will not achieve the greatness that this dish can be and further study will be necessary from other sources.

This is a great little book with lots of ideas. The variety of ideas was one of the reasons I wanted to have the book, but the main reason I wanted it was for a CHOCOLATE batter recipe.Well they have a picture of chocolate ones and they refer you to the chocolate one, but there is no chocolate batter recipe anywhere in the book. You are told to use the vanilla batter for the chocolate ones. Anyway I still like the book and just figured out a work around for the problem.If you want a chocolate batter, make the vanilla batter and add the following additional ingredients: 3 Tablespoons of cocoa powder to the flour, salt, baking soda, sugar mixture. Increase the Sugar to 3 Tablespoons Increase the butter to 4 TablespoonsIf you are allergic to dairy like I am, substitute coconut milk for the milk.Coconut oil for the butter that goes in the batter.Olive oil to cook.My kids love the chocolate ones with rolo candies melted in the middle.By the way, if you are going to make these, you owe it to yourself to buy the Lodge Cast Iron Aebleskiver pan. Lodge is the best and they are made in America. Heat the pan in your oven on 350 before putting on the stove top. Your pan will be heated through and you will get cooking much quicker.

Within 2 days of receiving this book I made 3 batches of Ebelskivers.I had never heard of them before stumbling on them on Amazon.Some reveiwers say they use pancake mix to make theirs but I can't imagine replacing the light, airy batter with a heavier mix. The book gives several receipes for the pastry mix.I tend to believe if you prefrer a buttermilk batter you could substitute the milk with it to acheive the same finished result and taste.The Ebelskiver are to die for and the batter is so simple to make at home. I understand why someone called them "Evil Skeevers"!I made the basic batter twice and already tried experimenting by adding ice cream fudge topping as the filler on the second batch. It worked out great.The third batch I made the almond cherry ones. Great too.They are so simple to make and are unbelievably delicious.What surprised me is the versatitly of them. In the cookbook are cheese stuffed served with marinara sauce, crab stuffed, etc. If you like to be a creative cook like I do, the possibilities are endlessThere is not one person that I have talked to that have ever heard of them. Obvisously, they are not sold in the stores around Western New York.I am planning on opening a bed and breakfast next year and these will definitely be on the menu.Along with the cookbook I also purchased Nordic Ware Danish Ebleskiver Pan.Great pan to make great Ebelskivers!!Get them both and let your imagination and creativity take you away to tastefully wonderful possibilites.

There are ten or more recipes each for æbleskivers served for appetizers, snacks or side dishes, breakfast or brunch, or for dessert.I follow the instruction in this book to separate the egg whites and yolks. I mix the whipped egg whites into the batter at the very end to achieve a very light airy texture.Not a criticism, since there is not a perfect right way to make these round treats.......I enrolled in a class at the local Nordic Heritage Museum and we learned to turn the cooking batter in the wells of the specialty pan in such a way as we did not get that hemispheric line dividing the pancakes that show in the cover photo of this cookbook.These treats are meant to be served hot and eaten immediately. The whole "thing" about these airy ephemeral mouth watering tasty snacks - and guests and family crowding around you at the stove crying out for "....more, more"!

The book is cheaply made. The fold outs won't last long. I think it is a horrible story. A reader who is very literal, I was going to use it with someone who has Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and is very literal, would be bothered by this book. I know the idea of bugs in the food would be bothersome.I wanted to use the story to reinforce color, cutting, stacking and folding but I will have to find something els

This is one of those books that just left an impression on me as a child. I think it was only read to me once or twice in elementary school but I loved it. So when I had my own kids I tracked this book down. What is better than a book that is a sandwhich? You get to unfold each layer of the sandwhich to find the bugs Sam hides in them. Sure it's mean that Sam is doing this to his sister's sandwhich (and for no apparent reason) but kids think it is hilarious and so fun! It is not going to lead to deviant behavior.

This is a favorite in my classroom and with my own daughter. As a speech therapist, I appreciate the creativity of the story and numerous language opportunities through prediction, absurdity/higher level thinking, and rhyme. Perfect for preschool and early elementary schoolers. They love the engaging pictures and lift flap surprises on each page. And of course bugs and creepy crawlies are always a hit with the kids. Love this book! A great gift for boys and girls.

Love this book. Ordered it for my almost 4yr old daughter for Christmas. My daughter thinks it’s very funny. Pretty nifty that it’s sandwiched shaped and small flaps to find the bugs. Now if I can keep my daughter from ripping the flaps I’ll be very happy.

My little grandson likes funny things that reek of a little naughtiness. I read the book to him and he loved looking for the critters in the sandwich ingredients. Then he was just over the top with delight watching his Mama go through the book. He likes to cook for me in his toy kitchen. Yesterday I asked if there were any bugs in the fake eggs and he immediately went to get Sam's sandwich to enjoy again.

I read this to my kids now grown, and now reading it to my grandchildren who love it just as much! 25th anniversary edition proves this is a classic!

I had this book at my grandmothers house when I was little and never forgot it. When I had my children I always thought of this and how much fun I had reading it! After much searching at gradma's house and online I finally found this here on amazon. It took a long time for it to actually become available (though Amazon's communication during the wait was great) but when it came it was exactly as I remembered and perfectly hilarious for my kiddos!

I grew up reading this book and now I’m reading it to my boys. Such a fun story. I love that unfolding the flaps as you go creats an actual sandwich at the end of the story.

This book is so great! I loved this book when I was little and enjoyed seeing what creepy crawlies Sam hid in his sisters sandwich! I love the picture on the front and thought it would show that project, nope!Once it's in your library, the front picture's changed to a super easy beading project that's still not in the book!This is your VERY basic beading book that starts you at the process. Don't go by the picture on the front and know it doesn't have many projects...smh

The information is very, very basic. The photos are very bad resolution, very small, and many are distorted. The projects that really could use reference photos have none at all. This looks and feels like desktop publishing by an amateur. There are a lot of books on Amazon with much better information for less money.

I purchased this book and was very disappointed in it. The bracelet on the front wasn't even in the book and her other book is the same book with just a different title and picture on the front also which isn't in the book. Very misleading and not worth it!

This book is definitely for beginners. It breaks down all the tools you will need to make your jewelry as well as the sizes & gauges of wire to use. It is a very helpful book for someone who has never made jewelry before. My only disappointment is that it doesn't show how to make the bracelet on the cover. Detailed pictures of the tools needed and the step by step instructions for the craft make this a fantastic teaching book. The author explains what tools are needed and where to purchase them. The steps to making the components for the jewelry are clearly outlined with photos that can be enlarged. After you learn the basics easy projects to get you started are also included. The book is packed full of good useful information and I highly recommend buying if you are interested in learning this craft.

I regret spending a buck on this book....too basic and not what I expected. Don't waste your time. I got more from the free kindle books.

A great approach to understanding environmentalism though an Islamic lens. Abdul-Matin highlights major universal Islamic principles that make it clear that one of the major responsibilities God has for humanity is to maintain balance on the earth.He also presents major examples of efforts currently doing good things on this front.

In Green Deen: What Islam Teaches About Protecting the Planet, Ibrahim Abdul -Matin attempts to show how an environmentalist/conservationist belief system and lifestyle are "deeply imbedded in the Muslim tradition from a variety of perspectives." Abdul-Matin is an American-born Muslim who attended Hamza Yusuf's new Zaytuna College in Berkeley, California before returning to his native New York to further his education and pursue work in line with his family tradition as a community activist or policy advisor. His thesis is that six Islamic ethical principles or ideas form a framework of an environmentalist ethos. The six principles he addresses are tawhid, which he describes as the Oneness of God and which he often expounds in a sense of the interconnectedness of all subjects of Creation, ayat, or the idea of signs of God being everywhere including in humanity and nature, khalifah, which he views as the idea of humans as stewards of the Earth, amana, described as a divine trust for humanity to protect the planet, adl, interpreted in context as a call toward just use of resources and treatment of Creation, and mizan, explained as living in balance with the whole of Creation.After a nice forward by Muslim Congressman Keith Ellison, Abdul-Matin divides his discussion into four main parts: waste, energy, water and food. For each, he briefly outlines the environmental issues and tries to show how American Muslims are working to solve these issues by highlighting certain individuals as examples. He also sometimes refers to hadith or Qur'anic verses or in some other way tries to connect one or more of the six principles (tawhid, ayat, amana, adl, khalifah, and mizan) to solutions.As far as the quality of this item for someone interested in following a "Green Deen", a way of life that emphasizes responsible use of resources as part of and in line with Islamic teachings, his advice and outlines are mostly rather pedestrian. The historic and scientific background information in this book tends to be drastically oversimplified. The author fails to address any scientific debate over some claims made, and he makes sweeping gestures around history, at one point seemingly suggesting that there has been one smooth arc of progress from humanity as environmental devils toward fulfillment of the Islamic ideal of humans as proper stewards of the world's resources. However, as an overview or introduction, these aspects are adequate.The writer finally seems to catch his stride about 1/3 of the way into the book. He presents many solid, standard ideas for topics such as making a "Green Mosque" through energy audits, weatherizing, adding off-grid energy sources, avoiding use of disposable dishes and bottled water, incorporating ride-sharing plans, composting food waste, using low energy appliances, getting LEED certification on new construction, growing a community garden, and so on. He also does a fair job of describing a relationship between the modern political landscape and the unjust appropriation of natural resources by some governments and makes an impassioned argument against bottled water. He further succeeds at demonstrating through example that many American Muslims are working on environmental issues in a variety of contexts, although the book would've been well-served to have had even more such examples.Abdul-Matin admits in his introduction to a few limitations that do affect the overall quality of the work. His attempts to tie his chosen six Islamic principles to his overall discussion are often weak. The connections are there, but insufficiently supported in the writing. He becomes extremely repetitive, beginning sections with nearly identical wording and retelling some facts and stories multiple times. The questions he ends chapters with often leave them feeling unfinished rather than bringing them to a satisfying conclusion. He excessively uses the phrase "Green Deen" as if it were a religion or mantra of its own, separate from Islam, in contradiction to his correct contention that Islam and a conservationist stance are already perfectly aligned. And, he presents some content that involves fiqh in ways that may be incorrect for some schools of thought. For example, while making a strong case for organic and free range zabiha meat, he nonetheless claims that eating meat slaughtered by People of the Book is religiously acceptable - a claim that is certainly not a unanimously held position.As a whole, this work lacks in sophistication or nuance, but succeeds in filling a necessary niche in the available literature. A reader will find some content of worth in this effort, although may not be satisfied by the book as a whole. A youth group interested in leading its community toward more environmentally sound practices may find some inspiration and ideas in its pages and may benefit from the effort to employ an Islamic foundation, but will not find a clear, practical guide on how to accomplish its goals; the author leaves it to the reader to figure out how to put the ideals, ideas and examples into action in one's own particular context.

Good and informative read.....

With this book, Abdul-Matin brings Islam out of the shadows, and also brings it back home from the Middle East. He writes in a very accessible, easy to read style. He brings Islam into the mainstream of American Life by discussing very practical and common sense approaches to tackling one of the biggest problems of our era (waste, overconsumption,preservation of our planet).Religion can be relevant beyond just dogma, by helping us to re-frame how we look at our problems. The author is a native born, second generation Muslim, educated, with a sense of civic responsibility, helps me to look at Islam in completely different light. Highly recommended.

Ibrahim does a fabulous job providing the reader with a faith-based perspective on the environmentalism movement. His book is full of interesting and thought-provoking concepts, as well as practical steps to implement a more "green deen". He does a great job writing to a wide audience, whether Muslim or not, environmental activist or not, the book has something for everyone. For those with little or no background in Islam or the environmental movement, Green Deen discusses not only the basics, but also deeper concepts that connect the two spheres. For those who have more knowledge of Islam and/or the environmental movement, Green Deen also provides interesting insights, such as the notion of the earth being a mosque, and the Prophet Muhammad's serious concern with taking care of the planet because of mankind's role as stewards of the earth. And finally, Green Deen is an easy read. Once you pick it up, it's easy to get lost in its content and message.

I very much appreciate this book because it connects two subjects I care so much about: faith and Earth. It is well written with good depth and insight and it really motivates the reader to take action which is what books in this subject area should do. There is a strong emphasis on our roles as stewards of the planet and all that is living on Earth and I think that is really well illustrated with concrete examples that show what the world would look like if everyone took the time to take good care of our living space and others around us. I am grateful to have been able to find such a wonderful book and I am buying more for my friends and relatives as a gift. It is well worth reading and I am already changing my habits to do a better job of taking good care of the Earth and I really feel connected and inspired by this book.

In today's society we are constantly reminded that our worth is judged materiallistically. In Green Deen, the author grounds human worth to our innate connection to the Creator and all created things. How we treat the planet is a reflection of how we treat ourselves. Green Deen is a simple yet deep reminder to reassess our actions. This book explores how the economy affects our green habits. It makes an interesting case that capitalism and consumerism don't have to be anti-environmentalism if practiced differently. I believe this book shows people of all walks of life how to connect green living to their own ideologies and style of living by giving compelling examples of Muslims incorporating the two.
