As a librarian (now retired), I have used Amazon for a very long time without ever having written a review. The contents of this book are worth becoming public with a review. Well written, well organized, thoughtful and packed with necessary information for those struggling with Celiac Disease, I plan to donate my copy to the public library so more people can read it. I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease over 20 years ago, and, as a librarian, spent countless hours searching for the answer to why I felt so awful. Jennifer has provided a way for all Celiacs and the gluten intolerant to find the information we need within the covers of one book. She does not recommend specific brands of gluten-free food (smart!) but does recommend websites (agree with all her choices, especially Gluten Dude) and a style of cooking that Celiacs and the gluten intolerant need to follow to stay well. Jennifer is very clear about not being a doctor but also pushes the reader to keep asking questions and to keep looking for medical personnel that understand Celiac disease (took me some years as well). A tool kit for heath! Thank you Jennifer...

I eat gluten free because I am severely gluten intolerant, and this book nailed the coffin on the issue of gluten. I am so sick and tired of hearing criticisms and mean jokes about gluten free eating, when this is a major issue for a lot of us. In fact, after writing a scathing review of the book The Gluten Lie (written by the way, by a Professor Of Philosophy with no professional knowledge of gluten, who thinks us gluten-intolerants are psychosomatic), I threw it in the garbage. Celiac disease is real. Gluten intolerance is real. And many of us are sensitive to dairy as well, which thankfully is mentioned in this book. Thank you Jennifer, for writing an absolutely wonderful book about your experiences. I look forward to your cookbook, which I hear is being published soon.

I read this book while waiting for my blood work to come back on my test. A stomach biopsy showed damage.I am overwhelmed waiting to find out. And this book both scared me and comforted me. While I was scared by Jennifer's journey I was comforted by the solutions she offered at the end. Comforted that she shared her experiences so that I can try and avoid the bad ones she had.I am going to make my husband, adult daughter and business partner read the book. That way they can better support me.Jennifer, thank you for putting it all out there. That cannot have been easy, but in doing so, you helped so many people.

I picked up Jennifer's Way, because I had heard the author speak at my school. Hearing her story, and the many struggles she went through dealing with a disease that was not really in the medical arena like it is today, was both frightening and inspiring. The author demonstrated that we all have it within us to fight for what we feel in our hearts is right. The section where the doctors put her in a psychiatric ward at the hospital because they felt she was going crazy. And, she felt like no-one was hearing her. To me, that was the saddest part. How aweful it is to not be heard and validated. I am grateful that Jennifer listened to her intuition, to find her health again. She is so inspiring and a great role model to take all the crap that has been given you, and find the gift. Our gift, is her story, and I look forward to visiting her bakery some day in NY.

This book was like being heard for the first time. If you are unsure that you might have celieacs because most of your symtopms are not neccisacrrlitly belly issues, you need to read this book.The book gives you her testimony, her journey, how to talk to doctors, how to navigate the journey of being diaganosed and after you are diagnosed. The author has a way of comforting the reader and encouraging them but she will be real with you! She will not sugar coat celiacs and tell you its easy peasy. It is a great balance of tough love. Kind of like being a parent. I will love you but I am going to tell you the truth because it best for you.So far this is one of the best books I have read about celiacs so far.PROs: Listed above in my review.Cons: The author is not a doctor or medically trained. This is her personal journey and testimony. This book should be used as encouragement and gaining knowledge and confidence to jump into the celiacs testing and living with celiacs. The author did consult with a doctor with this book but everyone is different so this is NOT a medical source of info.If you want a medical book to break down in medical terms the ins and outs of this disease, this is not what you want. this is for you to feel you are not alone and how to start your journey on living again.

I just finished Jennifer's book. I was diagnosed seven years ago and am now 70 years old. I have no idea how long I had this disease before I was diagnosed, but have had symptoms that could not be explained for many years. When I look, back at my childhood, I believe that there's a good chance that my mother had it also, though not as much was known about the disease back then. I bought many books about the disease when I was first diagnosed and just happened to stumble upon Jennifer's book recently. I'm not sure why, but it spoke to me so I purchased it. I learned things from her book that I did not know and it was extremely helpful to me. Thank you Jennifer.

I loved this book and appreciated Jennifer sharing her journey. I am HLA B27 positive and have a disorder called Ankylosing Spondylitis which inflames the eyes, joints and digestive system. At times I laughed and cried because our autoimmune adventures/experiences were so similar: compassionless caregivers, medical professionals who treat you as if you were crazy, years of tests, and drugs being the solution to everything, even while the "drug pushers" admit they have no clue as to what causes your illness and state there is no cure. Jennifer's humor and her message of hope, as well as her belief that "you can be anything you want to be," should be must reading for everyone, especially young women, and those of us who suffer with an autoimmune disorder.

One of the best!! Great content. This is a historical (yet easy to read) account of gospel movements and the funding sources that made them possible. There is a look at there primary stories.The model is for wealthier folks primarily, but the idea of giving more than just money is huge for everyone. Without significant resources you can still patron and partner in a deeper full life sort of way.For example, the first story is that of William Tyndale and Humphrey Monmouth. Humphrey partnered not in that cash to thecae of translating the Bible into English. He partnered by providing room, board, and smuggling the Bible into England. His partnership was so deep that Humphrey was also martyred along with Tyndale. He was a true and powerful patron.

We are so familiar with the great men of the Church; the Apostle Paul, Tyndale, Whitfield, Newton, Wilberforce, but each had largely unknown partners in the gospel, without which the great would not have become what we know them for. God uses people of means to enable others to proclaim the good news and accomplish great and glorious works in God's Kingdom. This is a book about and for those essential gospel partners. Honestly, if all the pages in this book had been blank, I would have run with the seeds planted in my brain by the title alone. As a sports ministry leader, I found this book to be just the kind of encouraging work our donors need to read. In fact, almost immediately one of my partners was recommending it to a long-time financial partner who was wondering whether his generosity in several arenas was hitting the intended mark. Gospel Patrons should be just right for his discouragement.That said, it was perhaps my expectations that led to my disappointment at times with the writing style. I know Mr. Rinehart wanted to use common, readable language--he says so directly--but I found that his stories, which are the heart of the book, often came across as bios for young readers. To me that was something of a miss for his audience, who in addition to being generous would usually be educated enough to read something a bit more sophisticated in its choice of words. Still, the stories are planted for good in my own mind, and I am still brimming with appreciation for this book a week after completing it.

This review might contain spoilers, I'll try not to reveal anything although, nothing really happens that hasn't been disclosed on the synopsis.Blood Stain volume 1 is the story of spunky but loser graduate student, Elliot, whom I'm having a hard time believing has gotten through a chem degree considering the fact that most of the first half of this story is about her inability to hold even a basic job, apparently all from the 1800s. A butcher! A baker! A candlestick maker! Good lord, maybe I am not in on the nursery rhyme joke as I was not a fan that followed the series from DeviantArt or followed Linda's work prior to picking up this comic but I found it all very ridiculous. Regardless, most of this is designed to establish our protagonist as a well-meaning but ultimately incompetent individual. I believe the intent was to find her ineptitude endearing but I found it a little frustrating that she seemed surprised by any sort of manual labor as if she had never held down a job. Not just a job for a short period of time, but ... any job EVER. I was willing to put that aside because we are in the genesis of this character's journey but there wasn't anything particularly likable about her when she interacted with any other character (she called her sister on maternity-leave a freeloader... ouch). Coupled with her lack of ability, I was beginning to lose interest in Elliot but I was intrigued by the premise of the story so I pressed on.Except... There isn't much story. Predictably there is tension between her and her boyfriend as the ONE job she's able to hold down for two months suddenly causes a rift between them. I don't know how long they've been together but it's probably best they cut it off if her finally being a responsible individual is ruining the relationship. So... not surprisingly, because she eventually needs to get the job with Vlad Stien, Elliot is fired tanking her already tenuous confidence levels. And because she's comically terrible and has apparently run through every open position in the town she lives in, she is forced to call Vlad. Finally, Elliot is on her way to meet Dr. Stein (and I think that puts us at 2/3 of the story) but even then she begins to question taking the job because Vlad sounds *creepy*. Everything surrounding the job is *creepy*. A friend of a friend of a women Elliot has never met says that the job is *creepy*. Elliot can barely skin a potato but she's at least smart enough to stay away from creepy dudes! And that is part of my frustration with this story, instead of seeing anything remotely creepy from Vlad Stien outside of his blatant disregard for proper handling of biofluids, you never really see anything creepy. Elliot doesn't actually meet him face to face until the final page of the book.Other stupid scenarios happen that honestly, could just have easily been handled in a way to create drama that didn't involve making everyone look like idiots but I realize that making a story isn't easy. Still, Elliot is basically a manic pixie girl that people who are entrenched in geek culture can probably identify with. Right, I forgot to mention that she's a gamer girl that can't adult so millennials will probably feel some empathy for her (still mostly self-imposed) situation. Still, for a synopsis that establishes her as having a "near pathological addiction," I think there is only one scene that shows her playing an mmo and no scenes that establish her as having a serious problem with gaming. This to me would have had a greater impact on her failing relationship. I believe that there is also one shot that mentions that Elliot's mother is in the hospital which could have been a great emotional driver for her taking a job with a mad man instead of being terrible at every menial job in existence.So what's good about this comic? Well it's got great art even though I feel that Linda tends to shy away from perspective work. The characters are expressive and the coloring is vibrant and mood-appropriate.I debated on whether or not I would purchase the next volume and I think I'll give the next book a go to see if the introduction of Dr. Stein as a main character actually pushes some sort of narrative forward. Otherwise, I don't really know if this book is worth it? It's possible you could skip this and go right to the beginning of book 2 and not miss much exposition.I will update this review after I get book 2.

Well, this is certainly not what I expected. I was kinda hoping for something more piles-of-bodies-ey. The plot doesn't actually progress much and this feels like the equivalent of an issue 1 rather than a volume 1, as far as plot progression. The end feels exactly like the end of a first issue.But all that's okay, because what we DO get is some fantastic humor and Elly's inner world, which is an awesome place to be. Her thoughts are like these Family Guy-style cut-aways. Except these are funny. This book is friggin hilarious. It sucks that I feel like I got cut-off when the story was seemingly just starting. But I had a blast throughout the whole thing. I will probably keep going with this. It really procrastinates moving the plot, but it's a really good time while it's doing that.

I love this comic. I follow the artist and read this comic on Deviant Art and I love it. Once I heard this comic was getting a printed release I was so excited I actually per-ordered it back in October of 2015. I love the story, the art, and everything about it, I love the facial expressions as well, a lot of them make me laugh especially when it gets further into the story. The characters all have a very brilliant life of their own and the characters are relate-able. I can't wait for the next volume to come out, it is so nice to actually be able to sit down and read this story and see the awesome art work by Linda Sejic without having to turn the computer on and stare at a screen and tire out my poor eyes. I'll always keep reading it as it comes out on DA but I'm definitely going to continue getting the printed versions of it to.

Beautiful artwork and a cute, weird story that really appeals to me. It is a slice of life sort of comic, but it manages to leave you hanging at the end of this volume. Its a quick read, but Linda Sejic is generous with extra sketches and scrapped Blood stain panels. I found the story of how Blood Stain came to be, very sweet and inspiring.There's always something really special about owning a truly lovely comic or artbook in physical form, plus what better way to support artists than buying the wonderful fruits of their labor and tears.

I read these volumes online for free(!) and came here to buy them in hard print. What better endorsement than that of how great these are? I love Linda Sejic's humor, and her artwork in this graphic novel/comic series is wonderful. I'll be buying the next volume when it's available.

As a lover of Sunstone, I became acquainted with this comic series. Having read Blood Stain, I can't think of anything I didn't like. The artwork and storyboarding was attractive, effective , and engaging. The story and characters worked together well. The premise was enticing and the comedy was well written. I've enjoyed every page the author has released so far and I hope to read more soon.

90% of the story is the same thing. You might start to think youre reading some kind of time traveling strory but youre not.Linda's art is good and on the steps of being phenomenal but her storytelling and dialogue could use some sharpening. Overall the story feels like something that couldve been summed up in a 1issue story. Not an entire graphic novel

This is a great soap book for a beginner. I have just recently been interested in making my own soap at home and I thought if I am going to the trouble to make my own soap why not make it a safe as possible. I would high recommend this book if you are looking for information on making homemade soaps.

Gave this book to my wife and she really enjoyed the process of making soaps. If you're a beginne rand you're serious about making soaps, I highly recommend it.

I like this book. I found it very informative. I can't wait to try some of the recipes, especially Avocado soap with coconut oil. It sounds exotic.

Very good book

A good basic book on soap making. The recipe instructions on a couple of soaps directions were confusing . The recipe for the poppy seed soap was unclear on steps 4&5. If you had notmade soap before it would not be clear why the soap had to be melted when you had just melted it in the microwave? But this book was full of wonderful information.

It is a good book. very easy to read.

This book really hits the nail on the head. The author is "Peter Temin is an economist and economic historian, currently Gray Professor Emeritus of Economics, MIT and former head of the Economics Department."In economics, models are used to help explain an economy. The models are simplified ways of looking at them. Since they are simplified they miss things making them imperfect. That's always the case with economic models. None of them are perfect but some are better than others.The models he uses in this book is from "W. Arthur Lewis, a professor at the University of Manchester in England, (who) proposed a theory of economic development in a paper published in 1954."He also won a Nobel Prize in Economics for his "pioneering research into economic development research with particular consideration of the problems of developing countries""He noted that development did not progress only country by country, but also by parts of countries. Economic progress was not uniform, but spotty. Ports where merchants organized trade in and out of a county might well grow rich before the country as a whole. Parts of a country might grow apart as a result. Lewis wanted to generalize from examples like this to learn how the parts of such an economy related to each other. Lewis assumed that developing countries often have what has come to be called a dual economy. He termed the two sectors, “capitalist” and “subsistence” sectors. The capitalist sector was the home of modern production using both capital and labor. Its development was limited by the amount of capital in the economy.The subsistence sector was composed of poor farmers where the population was so large relative to the amount of land or natural resources that the productivity of the last worker put to work—called the “marginal product” by economists—was close to zero. The addition of another farmer would not add to the total production. The new worker would be like a fifth wheel on your car."Using this model, the "Lewis Model", explains how things like slums can and do form.The model, when created, was for developing countries.The author takes that idea and applies it to the US. The frightening part is it works pretty well to describe what we are seeing.He starts with US history similarity to Howard Zinn's "A People's History of the United States" tying racism to class and yes we have class in the US along with racism. Having a linkage to racism means it also has loads of difficulties in trying to fix things just like bigotry has. The TV show "Dear White People" does a very good job of outlining some of the difficulties and many of them are shared between the two. I also suggest that TV show.Having those two things tied together means that very rich folks can just have one group fight another group while they get away with loads of things.It goes well beyond just that point to many others that using the model and they all fit pretty well to describe what we are seeing in the US.A model for developing countries is fitting the US, a developed country. Think about that for a second or two.It's a good, well-written book. I definitely suggest folks pick it up and read it.

This is a really important, and reasonably thorough book on this topic (it offers a fair number of reasonably good examples and a fair amount of at least basic data relevant to the conversation), that really offers concrete analysis and synthesis into effects that tend to cavitate the economic spectrum, so that there is an increasing difference between "haves" and "have nots" and a depletion of the middle class. It's an important read, and it dovetails well with important other books on major structural changes in the postmodern economy, such as Westlake & Haskell's Capitalism without Capital, in developed countries generally, but also the US specifically. I really encourage thinking about this as a book that analyzes changes that are happening in developed economies for complex reasons, many of which are not overtly political in a partisan sense, but which require societal and political responses, including organized government responses, many of which are increasingly not happening in the US because of partisan bickering. The bottom line is that: the changes being described in this book are real, solid evidence suggests they are sustained and developing their own inertia, the changes have the potential to cause great human harm, and we have opportunities to manage them and lead society to a better place, if we are willing to do so.

This is an important book-but somehow unsatisfactory, as the peculiarities of America's ghastly history of discrimination parade in the foreground-while the problem advertised in the title-that is the shrinkage or "hollowing out" of the middle classes - is a problem also found in a number of other advanced Western countries which don't have America's history of fraught race relations. He hasn't nailed it. More and better analysis is needed.

Brilliant essay - short (166 pages) and highly readable. And it makes an unexpected, innovative use of the Lewis model of a dual economy that is normally used to explain the challenges faced by developing countries - not a developed, advanced country like the United States. But the model's explanatory power works, and it helps to forcefully highlight what is wrong with both American democracy and the American economy. Professor Temin's book takes Thomas Piketty's famous disquisition on wealth and income inequality in the 21st century one step further and applies it to the American situation today - in the age of Trump.Two major forces, class and race ( "class segregation" and "racecraft" as he calls it) explain how it happened, and the Investment Theory of Politics wraps up the argument. Today the United States is fast becoming a plutocracy in the hands of the finance and tech sector and it is truly a grim prospect. The lights of the "city on the hill" are going out!A must read, highly recommended. Take a close look at the solutions Temin proposes - they make a lot of sense to me, but I fear that many are not politically viable...I have left a question on Goodreads and hope many of you will want to go over there to answer and enter the debate.
